PSA: Having Cheat Engine installed on your PC can (and probably will) get you banned, permanently.
Excessive swearing or hacking are a certain ban, while things like minor swearing or reporting should not usually get you banned.
Cheat Engine will not trigger an VAC ban UNLESS you inject/hook it into the VAC PROTECTED GAME! You cannot inject/hook it by an mistake. So unless if your friend does hook/inject it into the protected process/module, he is fine.
The VAC system reliably detects cheats using their cheat signatures. Any third-party modifications to a game designed to give one player an advantage over another is classified as a cheat or hack and will trigger a VAC ban.
This type of ban is reserved for very severe violations of the Terms of Service or federal law. All players on the banned accounts' IP Address are blocked for 7 days and will see a 403 error when trying to access the Roblox website.

Cheat Engine itself is not a virus. A few antivirus marks it as malware or PUP because it can attach itself to processes and modify memory. The installer you download through their official website is bundled with a bunch of adware. More information about adware can be found from below antimalware vendors.
Yes, it is safe to download and use. Use cheat tables done by modders. Don't go mess with the values unless you're trained or you risk to crash your game (no big deal, just save before doing so).
The installers of Cheat Engine, are known to include potentially unwanted programs which are often bloatware or malware, and as a result, most anti-virus software detects the installer as a virus. Bloatware-free versions are generally available on the product's Patreon page, or users can build the program from source.
Yes you can use it but if anything goes wrong you wont be able to do a thing about it. Note that some 'single player' games are actually open to the internet for others to join. Dead Island, TF2, etc. If it is a VAC game, ensure you are in -insecure mode!
If you know just one thing about Valve's Anti-Cheat system (VAC), you probably know that a ban issued through it lasts forever. As Valve's support page lays out clearly, "VAC bans are permanent, non-negotiable, and cannot be removed by Steam Support."
Cheat Engine can allow you to cheat in almost any game. Local games, such as Empire: Total War, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, and Minecraft (single player) will allow you to use Cheat Engine to cheat. Cheat Engine, if used correctly, will modify your local files.
you do not get banned for using that.
You can use it, however make sure you close it + the game if you plan on going online. Leaving cheat engine injected could possibly get you banned. Not sure if memory edits would get detected going online. Like it says , SINGLEPLAYER wont get you banned , althro you CANT use ANYTHING ON ONLINE.

Based on recent reports it is quite clear that their is currently an engine bug. The anti-cheat system seems to be randomly terminating people. I believe this occurs when players join the game as it seems to be triggering as if a player is exploiting.
Unless you can actually get some level of relevant proof that this is in fact a mistake, please report it.
