Steps to change display name
To change your Display Name:
On Roblox, you can change your account's username in the account settings. It costs Robux to make this change. However your Display Name is a free option to change how your name appears in an experience or game.

A list of previous usernames can be found on the Account Settings and Profile pages, along with People search. You can change back to a previous username, using the above method, which also costs Robux.
Here’s how. First, log in to the Roblox website. On the main Roblox page, click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen and select “Settings.”.

A ROBLOX Username is the associated name with your account when you created it. This is required to login to your account, as well being the unique identifier of your account. No two players can have the same Username, and as such, is completely unique.
Changing your username on ROBLOX is an easy, but expensive process. Changing to a new Username requires a cost of 1000 Robux to change, so make sure you’re willing to part with that Robux in order to amend your name.
You can change your Display Name for free, once every seven days. This is how other players see you in-game and isn’t unique to one player. This allows for players to be seen as their desired name, without incurring the costs like Usernames do.

Your username, or "handle," is used for login and application identification purposes. That username is basically your immutable online "address," which is used as a reference point to control everything having to do with your account.
It's kind of strange too when popular titles with large user bases leave out very "basic" features as well, like how Roblox didn't allow all users to have a display name.
