Full Answer
A new video investigation by YoutTube channel People Make Games claims the massively popular platform Roblox is exploiting its game developers. Roblox is a financial success, raking in around $3 million a day - more than Pokémon GO and Candy Crush combined. Although it is free-to-play, Roblox is not a game.
The video was made by games journalist Quintin Smith, who alleges that Roblox promises young developers the chance to earn money from their user-created levels, but that it's incredibly unlikely that they'll be able to do so.
Roblox essentially revolves around user-created levels, and the developers behind those levels can choose to monetize those creations and get paid in Robux. Users can then take those Robux and turn them into real money, with 100,000 Robux being the minimum and working out to around $1000.
Smith's claims include how Roblox promotes unrealistic expectations of success, specifically through the platform's Robux currency system and the proportion of Roblox's cut in game sales. Roblox takes around 75.5% revenue from every sale, which Smith compares to the Valve Corporation's 30% cut on the sale of Steam games.
A new video investigation from People Make Games has accused Roblox Corporation of "exploiting" young game developers. The video, below, from People Make Games' Quintin Smith, reveals Roblox's shady exchange system, which, it claims, makes it incredibly hard for developers to make money from the platform.
But Roblox is facing accusations of child labor exploitation to help it reach those heights. An investigation from People Make Games reveals that the game platform is exploiting young users. That report says Roblox has an estimated 200 million users a month with a core audience aged 9 – 15.
