Poisoned items on Roblox are not super common compared to past years but they're still out there for sure, if someone is trading you and you think that the item may be poisoned ask them to try the hat or accessory on. If it shows up on their avatar in game then I believe it is not poisoned, if it doesn't show up then it is infact poisoned.
Owning a poisoned item has a small possibility of warranting a ban to the owner and whatever means it took to get to them. This is because Roblox suspects owners, and past owners to be mules for the item.
This is the act of a user receiving, (Knowingly or unknowingly), stolen items from a scammed or hacked account. Given this situation, I am rather nervous that I may come in contact with one of these items. I don't scam of course, but from what I have heard, Roblox will term anyone for even having one of these items in your inventory.
You most likely won't be banned for obtaining 'poisoned' items you have no way of knowing are poisoned. I don't think you'll get banned from having a scammed item unless you get it for free.
Poisoned Items are most likely stolen accounts with limiteds . Poisoned items may be spread through two ways. Trading, and being sold. Trading is the more feared way, as it is hard to know what items are poisoned. Though, being sold is more of a threat to less experienced traders; who are buying their first limiteds'.

Any holiday items (i.e. Thanksgiving Turkey Hat).
The uaid is what roblox uses to tell copies of limiteds apart. For example, the uaid on my peach thug shades is this.

If by some chance you do get banned, use Roblox's support poll, and send them an Email. This will almost certainly get you unbanned, you will no longer have your poisoned items and a you may have a refund of said items. If not, either Roblox has made a major error, or you have indeed been trafficking items.
How to Avoid. Avoiding poisoned items may not seem easy, but it will become easier over time. First, when it's sold. If the price is significantly lower than the RAP, it's almost certainly poisoned. You may also see that the account has an item from redeeming a giftcard, and a " Verified, Bonafied, Pladiafied " hat.
Trading is the more feared way, as it is hard to know what items are poisoned. Though, being sold is more of a threat to less experienced traders; who are buying their first limiteds'. If a trader is more experienced, they have a smaller likely-hood of being poisoned.
Though, they are very harmful, the possibility of Roblox making an error is very slim. The most common punishment is simply having the items removed, and receiving an Email explaining the situation. You may be here because you fear of being banned because you've bought or traded for a suspected poisoned item.
The quickest way to identify an infected model is by going into the scripts (don’t worry, we won’t need to do any scripting yet), and check if the scrollbars on the right or on the bottom are bigger than they should be. A good example of this would be:
Another thing, if you see PromptPurchase () being run without you being aware that the script sells things to the player, then delete it. A good example of this would be Kohl’s Admin model that sold the chair model to everyone.
